What I am reading

What I am reading 10/31/25

I love the delusion I had that this would finally be my week that wasn’t busy. Thank God for some easy reading for those between moments.

I did the mad dash to get the Halloween costume done last week, and several of my daughter’s activities were cancelled. That just fed the delusion.

But I was volunteering for her class party, and I had an opportunity fall in my lap that required an application. And and and… It’s been a week of adding on when I didn’t expect it. It’s been a week of flying by the seat of my pants in the best way and then getting to snuggle with my daughter at the end of the day. I hope to have more weeks like this. But maybe with more notice.

And now onto what I’ve been reading.

Reading Social Media News

Of all the people I know who are writing about AI, Gini Dietrich is the best. She’s been posting blog post after blog post about the correct usages of AI and the ethical considerations. This week, she wrote about AI and whether agencies should give discounts when it is used. You definitely need to prepare for this question and this post is a great start.

And then I loved this article about building a framework so you can be more creative. I have found this to be so true during my career. The times when I’m less creative are when everything is everywhere and I don’t know what’s coming next. But I THRIVE when everything is in its place and I know what’s coming up.

Reading Books, Books and More Books

Past

Last week, I said I was not prepared for The Names by Florence Knapp, and I just wasn’t. This book was amazing. It felt so real and raw. I cried multiple times. And despite it all, I felt a bit of an emptiness as I finished it and these rich characters left my life. The three lives that sprung out of the decision of what to name a child will break your heart. You will want more for these characters, and in some cases, they do get more. It’s those cases where they don’t that will really get you. And I think the portrayal of abuse is so spot-on that it will open the eyes of anyone who has not been in that position. Score: A

Present

It’s book club time, so it’s time for me to read what is most likely a mediocre book. So far, Heart the Lover by Lily King is living up to the mediocre title. I’m really salty about having to buy this book. If you don’t know already, libraries across the country are having trouble getting new releases in. I noticed this a few months ago and wondered what was going on.

Just recently, libraries finally started filling in the blanks. A company that used to supply the new releases is closing up shop, and libraries have unexpectedly had to move to another company. That company is unable to keep up with the demand at this moment. So I’m left with the uncomfortable choice of just buying the book or not going to book club. I decided to buy the book. I hate being in this position, but I hate the idea of losing my social time without my daughter even more. Hopefully I won’t have this problem for long.

What are you reading? What books are you looking forward to?
