We seem to be running into the busiest time of year, and yet, I am still reading.
I don’t know how we got here already. But it’s time for me to put the puzzle pieces of the holiday season together. It’s becoming less about deciding what we want to do and more about what we can’t do. It’s depressing to look at it that way, but it’s true. There’s just too much that we want to do every year. If we tried to fit it all in, we would go absolutely nuts.
It feels like that’s a theme in my life right now. What do I really, really want to do? Because if I tried to do everything I want to do, I won’t be able to do any of it well and I will drive myself bonkers. I think giving myself permission to dip my toe into whatever has entered my brain has helped. Because saying to myself, “Hey, you can’t do that because you should be doing this,” wasn’t working. So a little dip in to get a feel for whether it’s for me helps. But fully committing to an activity means having to say no to something else. And after having an experience of it, it’s so much easier to make that decision.
Now, if only we could get a taste of all of the holiday experiences. *sigh*
And with that, it’s time to get to what I have been reading this week.
Reading Social Media News
If AI hasn’t pulled negative information about your brand, it’s just a matter of time before it does. What do you do? Search Engine Land put together a guide on what you can do. This is something you should keep in your back pocket, because this is yet another place where trolls can attack you. Protect yourself now.
I really loved this game plan from a creator on how to post to LinkedIn consistently. There are a lot of lessons that can be used to post consistently as a brand or on other networks. And the simplicity of the Google Sheet is sometimes all you need to organize your social media.
Reading Books, Books and More Books
Past
The Everlasting by Alix E. Harrow was such a unique book. I’ve never read anything even remotely like it. It’s well written and doesn’t drag even for a second. And like the last book, this kept me guessing as to where it was going. We were in a cycle that seemed never ending. The repetition could have been a little frustrating but I think choosing to tell it from another point of view helped. I didn’t see the ending coming, and I’m always excited when a book totally surprises me. This could very well be Harrow’s best book yet. It certainly made me want more, even if I’m not quite mourning the loss of this world. Score: A-
Present
I have had Beautiful Ugly by Alice Feeney an embarrassing amount of time. Like, the library yelled at me in an email, but after waiting a few days, I was able to renew it again so joke’s on them. It has nothing to do with my desire to read it. It’s just that I had a lot of higher priority books come in at once. So I started working my way through them with this book staring at me on my desk every day just waiting for its time to shine. Now is that time. I hope I can read it before the library gets mad at me again.
What are you reading? What books are you looking forward to?
