I am back to reading at a terrific pace, and I’m so happy about that.
There’s something horrible about not being able to do one of your favorite activities when you’re not feeling well. I just knew that if I kept pushing it that things would get better. But it didn’t. So I just kept muddling into books, not being able to connect in the way that I wanted to.
But things have finally fully turned the corner this week. I started the first week of my half marathon training with a focus I haven’t had in two years. And that physical activity has helped my mental activity immensely. Yes, I get exhausted a little quicker than normal. But I’m able to do more in a shorter amount of time. And that includes reading.
So let’s check out what some of that reading has looked like this week.
Reading Social Media News
Many brands are jumping into “unhinged marketing” without really thinking about whether it’s the right for their brand. And when everyone is doing “unhinged marketing” is it really unhinged? I agree with a lot that Sprout Social is saying about this kind of social media marketing. It is a good read to decide if it’s right for your brand.
Writing succinctly and with clarity is especially important when it comes to social media. And there are some new AP style rules you need to know to make sure your writing has that clarity that is so necessary.
Reading Books, Books and More Books
Past
The Correspondent by Virginia Evans is a very different book. It is a collection of letters with the main character at the center of them. So you’re only aware of what the writers are willing to tell. That felt problematic at first since the focus of the correspondence was a woman who was a bit of a cold fish. But as she blossomed into something new, you got to know the story better and how she made those around her better as well. She was a woman who didn’t accept love and become a woman who radiated love. It’s a lovely story, although it’s not for everyone. Score: A-
Present
It’s time to read some book club picks again and the first one is Dear Mrs. Bird by AJ Pearce. We wanted a companion book to the one the store had picked but since the subject was WWII, we all voted it had to be light as well. And that’s how we found ourselves at this book. So far, it fits the bill of being light. I instantly liked the character and am excited to be on this journey with her. I can’t wait to see where it takes us.
What are you reading? What books are you looking forward to?
