It’s been a tough week, and I have not been reading the way that I would like.
My daughter burst into preschool thinking every kid would instantly be her best friend. She probably made every mistake in the book, but after checking with the teacher, I decided to let her make those mistakes without any intervention. It didn’t feel good, but she needed to learn some things on her own.
Welp, a month later, when we started feeling like she was peeking her head out from the hole she dug at the beginning of the year, things ended up getting worse. There was a hitting problem in all of the preschool classes and the director did observations. My daughter did not do well under these observations. All of a sudden I was receiving all of this information that just doesn’t connect with who I know my kid is.
So I’m stuck here in a place I was really hoping to never be in: I’m advocating for my kid against a director. I’ve always pictured school as a partnership between me and her teachers, so this is disappointing to say the least. And stressful. If something didn’t de-stress me this week, I just didn’t have time for it. So of course the book I was reading this week was not de-stressing me at all. Aw well.
Let’s get to talking about what I am reading this week.
Reading Social Media News
I feel like so many people are still scrambling to know how to handle AI Overviews. Should we be working on getting mentioned there? Or is traditional SEO the way to go? I thought this article that really did the research on what is happening with AI Overviews gave a great plan to move forward. At least for now. At this point, everything may change again next week.
I may be a little obsessed with reading about other people’s content processes. So when a writer shared their content process for LinkedIn, you know I was all over it. It’s a great chance to go back to basics and see if there is any way to improve your own processes.
It looks like a conclusion is on the horizon for the TikTok saga. I’m not going to share an article here, because it’s moving too fast. But in the next week, we should know what’s happening. And then never talk about this ever again.
Reading Books, Books and More Books
Present
Remember how I said last week that Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout just kept screaming at me that it wasn’t for me? Boy was I right. I am just dragging through this book. It’s just so slow, and my brain is just not wanting to move at that speed right now. I gotta finish it because I have a rather long book to finish before Wednesday. My brain and heart both say no. But I’m not giving up. Yet.
Present
My next book for book club is Buckeye by Patrick Ryan. It is getting so much buzz, so I’m feeling overly cautious about it. I am also annoyed because this is turning into another book I will have to buy. I hate having to spend money with an author I know nothing about, and I have been burnt too many times by my book club books. Let’s just hope that’s not the case with this one.
What are you reading? What books are you looking forward to?
