What I am reading

What I am reading 10/24/25

I don’t feel like I accomplished nearly enough this week, but I did keep reading.

It was a week of rush, rush and rush some more. It was my partner’s birthday and my daughter needed a costume for her ballet class. And yeah, I had to get work in there as well. I really felt the strain of being a mom. It’s not that I don’t love it. It’s just a lot of pressure sometimes.

And you can say that I can cut the corners and make it easier on myself. I do. But there are some compromises I just am not willing to make. I’m going to bring to life my daughter’s dreams about how we celebrate her daddy. She wanted him to open a school bus and have a cake we made, so we did that. Did getting the school bus here on time prove to be problematic? Yes, but we did it.

I’m not willing to tell my daughter she can’t be exactly what she wants to be for Halloween. She had a vision, and I made that vision a reality. Maybe I’m too addicted to making her dreams come true. But I just won’t compromise here. If she has a dream, we’re going to do our best to make it happen.

But yeah, I’m tired. It’ll be fine. Halloween is almost here and I don’t have a lot more to do before then. And then a bit of quiet in November. Not really, but I’m lying to myself here. Just nod your head along with me.

Now let’s get to what I’ve been reading.

Reading Social Media News

Trust should be one of the fundamental aspects of your communication plan going forward. If you aren’t spending time building that trust, you’ll lose out on a lot that social media has to offer. So because of that, I’m all about sharing anything that helps you build that trust.

The lawsuit we’ve been waiting for just dropped: Reddit is suing AI companies for using their data. This lawsuit will shape the future of AI and the timeliness of its data. In other words, it’s going to shape everything we do online since AI is getting woven so tightly into online activity. We’ll all be watching this one closely.

Reading Books, Books and More Books

Past

I feel so conflicted about Among Friends by Hal Ebbott. The female characters almost all sucked in their own unique ways. They seemed to all rely on some weird stereotypes that don’t often apply anymore. Did the author just not know how to write convincing female characters? I don’t know, but I also take issue that the downfall of this friendship had to do with the women and then the women forced them back together. In the end, I’d really like to talk this through with someone and really get somewhere with it. This is one of the few books I’ve read that I think would really benefit from a discussion. But alas, I don’t know anyone else who has read it. So I think I’m leaving it on the table with a lot of unfulfilled potential. Score: B

Present

I just was not emotionally prepared for The Names by Florence Knapp. It kept showing up everywhere, so I decided to put a hold on it without really diving into what it was about. Boy was that a mistake. I was the victim of mental abuse, and it’s bringing those feelings back up. So I relate way too much with the thoughts and feelings around the disgusting physical abuse in this novel. I don’t like it. But following these three paths that have been triggered by the decision of what to name a baby has still been fascinating. I’m definitely having trouble putting this book down despite the mental toll it’s taking on me.

What are you reading? What books are you looking forward to?
