What I am reading

What I am reading 10/10/25

Who knew a cough could be this disruptive? After almost a week of this, I am just not reading in the way that I want to be.

I knew preschool would include a lot of illness. My daughter didn’t go to daycare, so we’ve never gone through that stage where we get every virus. We are FULLY in that stage right now.

Luckily, none of these viruses seem to be affecting my daughter all that much. She is congested right now, but still has loads of energy.

On the other hand, this latest virus has hit me with a cough that is making it hard to sleep, and I constantly feel like I’m on the verge of throwing up. Going through a week with too little sleep has been interesting. I’ve had to do some shifting things around work-wise and concentrate on what needs less of me. It’s not fun. I hate it. But this too shall pass. I’ll be back to normal in a few days and get back to working ahead very soon.

Until then, let’s check out what I’m reading.

Reading Social Media News

Want to get the correct answers to AI? Then you need to know how it is built, so you can understand what you need to build. Loved this deep dive into the mechanics of AI, so we know how they get their answers.

The weirdest part of social media for me is seeing brands chase after these huge, irrelevant (to the brand) influencers and throwing all their money at them. These mercenaries have no idea why they should love your brand and therefore can’t convey that to their audience. But do you now who does? Your customers. Now is the time to have a customer influencer plan.

Reading Books, Books and More Books

Past

I loved The Dream Hotel by Laila Lalami. It presented a future that could happen based on our current use of technology and algorithms. And it did it in such a compelling way. A glitch in the system disrupts so much that it must be either allowed to exist or eliminated. What does that mean? Should we really be ruled by what an algorithm says? Do dreams really reveal something about ourselves? Should we be judged by them? It raised so many excellent questions. But the ending was a little meh. Still I’ll be highly recommending this one. Score: A-

Present

I’ve been struggling to get into When the Cranes Fly South by Lisa Ridzén. I don’t know if it’s because I’m sick or if it’s just very slow. I’m reserving judgement for the time being, especially since a favorite author has not only recommended but keeps recommending it with the highest praise. So I will keep going and hope that I will get there. Because I always want to fall in love with whatever I’m reading and I know this has the potential for that.

What are you reading? What books are you looking forward to?
