What I am reading

What I am reading 9/5/25

I had sixteen hours riding in a car, so you better believe I did some heavy reading last weekend.

I don’t get to see my family very often, because they live so far away. It was a welcome break from constantly being worried about my daughter. She has people who are dying to entertain her, and I can just take a breath. It’s wonderful. I wish I could be around them more, so I could get more of those breaths. But alas, I live very far away.

Now let’s talk about all that reading I did.

Reading Social Media News

The verdict is in, and Google will not have to break off Chrome like first believed. But part of the deal is that they will have to share more search data. So this could be super interesting for content. We’ll see how this pans out.

You’re gonna get so sick of hearing everyone talk about trust. But in the age of AI, it’s going to be a vital part of your strategy. That’s because fans are going to look to trusted brands to debunk or confirms some of this generative content and because AI is trying to discern the trusted sources so it is giving the best answers to user questions. Get to know more about the latter so you can become a trusted source.

Reading Books, Books and More Books

Past

Case Histories by Kate Atkinson was a recommendation from a book club member who particularly lovely. She’s a former librarian (although she’ll correct me with a specific title when I say this but she was a librarian as far as I’m concerned) and just loves books as much as I do. So I was excited to dive into a book she liked. It was exactly what I needed for an end of summer book where my attention was a bit torn and something light was called for. Was it tied up into a bow a little too tightly at the end? Yes. Did I see just about everything coming? Also yes. But there was enough comic relief to make it enjoyable. Not my kind of book, but a good choice for this time of year. Score: B-

I don’t think anyone in my book club was excited about this month’s other choice. Songs for Other People’s Weddings by David Levithan and Jens Lekman annoyed me at first because the library had it, but it took forever to process it. So I ended up having to buy what I was pretty sure was going to be a meh book. It surprised me by how readable it was. I breezed through it in no time, not even stressing about reading it in time for book club. But the relationships annoyed me and seemed more like a placeholder so they could talk about the weddings. It could have worked, but it just didn’t. I also want to note that I tend to hate books with the font that is on the front of this book. I have no other examples. It’s just obviously true. Score: C-

Present

And now I’m back to going through the internet for their lists of what I should read. The latest is All the Other Mothers Hate Me by Sarah Harman. This is another light book, and I’m honestly not hating this streak I’m on with light books. I’m in the thick of other things, so using reading to relax my brain instead of challenging it is probably for the best. I don’t even know who I am when I say things like that. Yet, here we are. Let’s hope I’m back to my challenging books soon.

What are you reading? What books are you looking forward to?
